The Welsh Secretary Cheryl Gillan has today [Thursday 8 March] agreed to a request from the Commission on Devolution in Wales for a short extension to complete its work.
The Commission will now report on Part I of its remit in late autumn and will complete Part II by spring 2014.
Welcoming the decision, Paul Silk said: “Part I of our remit, looking at the financial powers of the Welsh Government, is complex. As a Commission we are united in the desire to produce a robust report that is in the best interests of Wales and felt that we needed a little more time to give thorough consideration to issues.
“As we will now be reporting on Part I in the late autumn, we did not want this to have a knock on effect on Part II curtailing the amount of time available to us to look at constitutional arrangements. I am delighted that the Secretary of State has agreed a short extension for us to complete our work. Over the coming months we will continue to listen and engage in order to produce a package of recommendations that we believe will be best for Wales.”
