To improve users’ experience of our website, now and in the future, we use a technology known as ‘cookies’ to save a few small data files within the web browser on your computer or other device.
These files can store information you’ve entered previously, so you don’t have to enter it again; and measure how people use the website, giving us vital information for managing and improving our service.
We don’t use these to identify you personally; and at all times, you have control over your browser or device’s use of cookies, meaning you can manage and/or delete them as you wish.
Our site uses the following cookies:

We use Google Analytics to collect information about how people use this site. We do this to make sure it’s meeting its users’ needs and to understand how we could do it better.
Google Analytics stores information about what pages you visit, how long you are on the site, how you got here and what you click on. We do not collect or store your personal information (e.g. your name or address) so this information cannot be used to identify who you are. We do not allow Google to use or share our analytics data.

To block the automated submission of ‘spam’ comments, we use an off-the-shelf plugin called Bad Behavior. This stores the time of your last visit, and the IP address you were using at the time. The plugin author has written a detailed statement about its use of cookies; the plugin’s code can also be inspected here.

Our site uses WordPress, the world’s leading blog platform, used by millions of sites globally. When users submit comments, WordPress stores their name, email address and website address (if they gave one) in cookies. Next time they visit a commentable page on that same site, those boxes will already be completed, for their convenience. The WordPress website has a page of information about its use of cookies.
Social networks and other third-party services
Additionally, we may sometimes include internet-based services, such as videos or social network sharing buttons, within our pages. These third-party services may also set their own cookies. We have no control over the way that these services use your data, and you should read their respective privacy policies carefully to find out what happens to any data that these services collect when you use them.
To find out more about cookies and how you can manage them within your browser, visit aboutcookies.org or allaboutcookies.org.
